Introduction Webster's defines a seed as "a source of development or growth", this is the foundation by which Bad Seed lives by and is driven. The band is constantly changing its format to deliver the best possible product to Edmonton and its public while keeping the old school spirit close at hand. Heavy set rhythms; harmonious vocals and crisp percussions bring you back to the day when The Beatles and Queen were igniting stages worldwide while transporting you into the future with ripping sounds of Nickelback, Creed and Puddle Of Mud. Diversity being the key, all the players have excellent stage presence and are dedicated in delivering a professional show that wont disappoint you or your patrons. History Formed shortly after Edmonton area band "Face Plant" broke up, Badseed played numerous live performances between 1999 and 2003 while going through two different frontmen. The other three members, Ray, Glen, and Robin have been playing together for about 10 years with Glen and Robin being the original founding members. Ray became the permanent bass player about eight years ago and has just recently recruited Rick Allen, formerly of "Blind Panic", to join the band and help bash out some rock tunes. Rick brings rhythm guitar & the voice to the new lineup. The band practices diligently to bring their interpretation of rockin' tunes to their audience with a powerful energy and plays a variety of rock Top 40 covers from the '70's to present day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rick Allen - Vocals/Guitar Booking Info: Email: 7dust@blindpanic.net Phone: 780 718-9983 Website: www.badseed.ca Bricktop
Bricktop was formed in 2001 by four members who were raised in the Vermilion Alberta area. Since then we have played around 80 shows including opening for Trooper, Helix, Dr.Hook, and others. Although we are all in our early twenties, we have developed a tie to classic rock and continue to keep an element of it in our own music and performances. I can say anything I want here, but you'd have to see it to believe it. Email: bt327@hotmail.com TopBlown Up Friend
Based out of Winnipeg, Canada; Blown Up Friend is a hard / alt rock band. Their sound is heavy but will not stomp your ear out. Formed in early 2003, they are energetic and committed to creating music that will warp the minds of people everywhere. The members of Blown Up Friend are: Mike (vox, guitar), Kevin (drums), and Keith (bass). They're influences range from the simplistic melodies of Nirvana, the crunching guitars of Smashing Pumpkins, and the deluge of effects found in Tool. The guitar sound is unique, the bass riffs are full of melody, and the drums are nothing short of crushing. The consistent blending of these three instruments maintains the energy at full throttle. Top Cranston Foundation
THE CRANSTON FOUNDATION has evolved since their beginnings in the early '90's into a smooth and powerful force in the punk/ska/reggae scene. Rick Polson rounds out the vocal diversity with a powerful and rythmic voice while serving as resident MC for the bands dub and hip hop flavor. 2004 has found the Cranston Foundation working harder than ever before, with a new demo album due out in March. The band is more focused on the music, striving to keep the punk Punk, and the reggae Reggae. New Management has helped to provide a new direction for the Cranston Foundation, giving them the much deserved exposure that is vital to bringing thier positive attitude and smooth grooves to the masses. Past Highlights include opening slots for the Smalls, I Mother Earth, Treble Charger, Bif Naked, Swollen Members, 54-40, Default, Wide Mouth Mason, Chixdiggit and Jack Union. DEXTER THORAX combines the experience, versatility, and dedication of four talented rock musicians who've decided to collaborate on producing an entertaining live show for local venues in Edmonton and the surrounding area. Supported by an array of some of the best songs in rock that span 4 decades of music. Formed in summer 2004, the members combine over 50 years experience in music and play songs from all styles of rock - hard, heavy metal, progressive, roots, blues, pop, funk, folk rock. Currently writing and recording for debut studio album to be released in 2005. After brainstorming over 200 band names, when we finally decided on the name "Dexter Thorax" for our group, people began asking us "Who is Dexter Thorax"? So we decided to go with that and create a legend and a mythology based on a fictional character from medieval times. Our website features an advice column called "Ask Dex". Read on... In a faire lande in the year of the thirde rising, a man was borne to three wives. His father was the local managere of sexuale affaires, but this did not scave him. He was a proud man. A man who took 'no' for an answer. He was a travellere, a voyagere you could saye. One fyne daye, whilst strollinge in thee woodes, he satte under a tree nexte to a creeke where he sawe a lyre floating downe streame . He plucked the strings of the lyre and felte the sounde in his hearte. Since then, he is knowne as the firste rocke starre to be borne. His name was Degchstere. But he had a badde backe, knowne in the bugge world as a thoragchs. The villigeres called him by that and after playing in all the villages and townes, he became the legende of sounde and after many fixes of his name, hereafter knowne as ...DEXTER THORAX. And the storye continues... De ballades of soulful mourning that bled longing, or of the quickest of tempos that filled the body with such unbound fevere was but made easy by the longe fingered Degchstere. It twas during the grande actors guild and jester fest that an idea twas but borne. As he performed one of his more hearty of songses, the croude in a meaden haze cried out and slammed theeir goblets in time to the pace of Degchstere, the different sized goblets and the surfaces to they were pounded upon gave off a unique sound and as fast as the fleet fingered Degchstere could play, the onlookers kept foorth the pace, Degchstere said he would not be beat by the pounding rhythm, but as he played forth the trances and blending of sound with an earthly beat, it came to him in that smokey courtyard. I shall mix thy strings with a tempo, laid out by woode and mallet and hence the first stages for the foundation of syncified rhythm were borne. As Degchstere's poluair grew though village and lair he found sadness in his hearte. For Degchstere, despite his followers and legions of admireses, he twas without a Ducket, penny or pound. He decided upon a great adventure of supplying thy taverns and ale houses with his high spirited music and talees to keep patrons joyful and happy through wine, woman and songe. Behind the shadows of artistry, hidden beneath the floor boards of creativity, there lurks a stirring soul: Four chosen to remain HIDDEN. This collaboration of musical styles have joined to accomplish a common goal. Original songs and selected covers to please music lovers like themselves. Not to be compared to any one style, only playing for the love of music. Venues like Alberta's Own Rock Weekend '03, Red's, Rendevous Pub in Edmonton, Bikinis and Coasters in Sylvan Lake and The Vat in Red Deer, had nothing less to say but to come back and rock shit up again. Bands like SAGE, The Frank, Hammer of Eden, Awol, Slack Jaw and Rosetta Stone all commented, that they would never take back a night after sharing a stage with the four of HIDDEN. Not so long ago:Alberta's Own Rock Weekend '03 Red's The Vat Bower Ponds: 'Battle of the Bands' Coaster's: 'Backyard Party' Rendevous Pub Up and coming: The Backdraught: November 29th, Edmonton Alberta's Own Rock Weekend '04. ~Vocals~ Shaun Lawrence was born and raised in Alberta. He has been an avid music lover since he was a child and has always been interested in experimental music. He has always dabbled in many sorts of styles of music. From jammin' hardcore on the guitar as a teenager, to studying jazz and classical at Red Deer College, has given Shaun no limits to his full potential. Playing in a serious rock band has been a goal of Shaun's for many years and has achieved this in the band HIDDEN.~Guitar~ Dan was introduced to music at an early age. Enrolled in Piano lessons at age 10. The novelty wore off within a couple of years. It would be a few more years before he would find an instrument of his choice. The guitar seemed to captivate him, and he fell in head first. A few starter chords from his father and he was off. Dan learnt his way around the fret board well enough to join his first band. Playing in country/rock bands, he had learnt some of the ins/outs of the music business. Curious about the music scene in the west, he moved from Manitoba to Alberta in '01. Hoping to become part of the local Alberta scene, Dan was fortunate enough to meet up with three other guys interested in the same thing, music. He started collaborating with them and applying a wide variety of ideas. As ambitious as he is, he feeds the burning desire to create new and interesting sounds and music, to complete dedication to his band and art.~Bass~ Tone has played a range of instruments, such as the Tenor Sax, Trumpet, percussion, guitar for over ten years. He first picked up the bass for a country / polka band in '98, although, that lasted no more than six months. In the fall of '02, a fretless 'ARIA' come in to play (no pun intended), then an obsession took the better of Tone, the BASS, well, that and being a public exibitionist. Streakin' his friend and bandmates Wedding, urinating on a certain drummer from a certain band (no disrespectWill), and skinny dipping Sylvan Lake, AB in mid October. All are a thrill and a rush, but nothing beats a bass buzz baby. If he's not being an exhibitionist, or gigging with his team HIDDEN, he's checking out or supporting local bands and the women.~Drums~ It all began with seven pieces of pure WESTBURY induced migraines for Jason's parents, who bought the drum set with good intentions with an attempt to cut down on the beatings of his mothers Tupperware containers. That soon forged itself into an irrepressible obsession. His obsession and dedication is that that fires up the drive of commitment for his band mates. Jason's goal is to pay tribute to his influential teachers that he has yet to meet. But most of all, to be heard.email : hiddenbasstone@shaw.ca High Grade

Joshuas Habit- Biography (June 2004) It was right after Canadian Music Week in March of 2003 that things started to make sense for the members of Joshuas Habit. They were on their way back from Toronto to their home base of Calgary on a 50-hour train ride. 50 hours of taking it all in; a lot of time for reflection…The 1st self recorded 3 song EP, the 1st 2 full albums ('Images of Energy' and ‘The Habit Unplugged'); the relentless touring and non stop self-promotion. They realized how far they had come, but still, they were so far from where they wanted to be. It then became crystal clear; it was time to start all over again. They knew they had it in them to write a collection of good, solid songs that people could relate to. So they went back to the basement, and began writing and rewriting, arranging and re-arranging, striving to create their best material to date. All the while, paying added attention to detail, not stopping at anything short of perfection. The Album 'Caution Contents Highly Addictive' was the result and the hard work that was put in is now paying off. 1800 albums have been sold since the official release (March 16, 2004). Todd Kerns (Age of Electric/Static In Stereo front man) has produced 3 tracks from the album; 'Flipside', 'Hold On', and 'Contagious'. The 1st single, 'Flipside', has been played on 30 commercial FM stations nationwide and climbed the charts on several of them. It became the #1 single for 5 consecutive weeks on ‘The Goat’ in Lloydminster and Lakeland area. 'Hold On', the follow up single was released to radio the week of June 4th, 2004. This compelling track mixes reflective angst and sonic aggression fuelled by soaring guitars and passion-filled vocals. Joshuas Habit continues to play hard on the live front with a tour schedule that stretches into the latter part of 2004. Their live show is all about intensity and high energy. Travis P. (lead vocals, bass) delivers drive, edge, and emotion with every performance while Eddy Whiskey (R. Guitar, vocals) brings thunderous rhythm to The Habit's live sound. The Gooch lays down a tight, high tempo/energized performance on Drums and the latest addition to 'The Habit' Cal (L. Guitar, Vocals), brings brand new electricity to the stage by firing up the crowd and lighting up the guitar with his mind blowing style, sound and edge. Some of the upcoming venues include a show on the Coke Stage at Calgary Stampede with bands such as 'The Tea Party', 'Default', 'Sum 41', and 'Finger 11'. As well, Joshuas Habit will be playing 'The Big Ass Border Bash' in Cold Lake with the likes of 'Trooper', 'BTO', and 'Kim Mitchell'. Joshua's Habit continues to give it all on their road to stardom. The members of Joshua's Habit all share a common goal. That is to write good songs and perform them live with explosive energy and emotion. Joshua's Habit plans to push the envelope and take the band to brand new levels of success. They are prepared to expose their truly original music and highly energized show not only to this great Canadian nation, but to the entire world. A Habit to be shared by all! Krisis

It's difficult to categorize this duo. They bring a rural charm to their shows, which feature tight vocal harmonies, storytelling through song, and spur of the moment offbeat humor.
Their material is accessible to all ages and brims with prairie images and character. It has edges of country bluegrass, splashes in some celtic, and homespun comedy. They are an engaging soft chair band that has played across the prairies since 1994.

My Dying Day, a name derived from the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, specifically enticed by the quote of the accused William Hobbs. When Hobbs was convicted of witchcraft Hobbs said in reply to the allegations "I can deny it to my dying day." My Dying Day was formed in the early months of 2004. Within short time, they began playing many local shows throughout the increasing Red Deer Scene as well as Olds/Rocky/Sylvan and Edmonton to name a few places where MDD rocked out. They played an amazing live show for a demonstration of peace in Red Deer, Alberta which brought forth their first live performance. Website: http://www.naomicarmack.com No One's Alone
No One's Alone formed in April of 2003 with members of 2 other bands: "Kjetil & The Conspiracy Theory" provided the chief songwriter, Kjetil Landsgaard, and a death metal band sometimes known as "Johnny Thunders & The Talking Plasma Band" or "Sourweed", provided Arjun Roy, the guitarist. A long-time jamming partner, Neil Farnquist, rounded out the triple guitar attack. The final piece of the puzzle found it's place when Stacy Arbeau, an amazing session drummer, and veteran of many big bands, agreed (with much enthusiasm) to join the collective. Since then, the band has compiled an album's-worth of original tunes that vary in sound from Melodic Metal to Reggae. Towards the end of July, just before Grizfest 2003, Shaun MacDonald
joined as bassist. Shaun has been around Grande Prairie, and has played in
many bands (notably punk, with Undermined Authority) and is a stellar
presence onstage, providing rock solid bass as well as lots of energy. The band admits that like any other entity, they are very slightly dysfunctional. Nevertheless, they keep their sanity by reminding themselves that it's all vital in order to keep the freshness in their sound. With influences ranging from AC/DC, Hendrix, Slayer, In Flames and Roxette, No One's Alone been doing a decent job thus far. Apart from differing musically, their differences (and inherent similarities) as people help foster a sound that is shaping up to be something unique. Holding sway over the band is the tallest member - Kjetil, who provides the lyrics and songs inspired by the fundamental questions of life. The band continues to persevere and write music that satisfies them both as musicians and as listeners. The band hopes, simply, that you dig it. First Prize: Calgary Toast and Jam Band Competition In the last six months, Calgary local band Parker's Lime must be doing something right. Out of the four Band competitions they have entered, they have won them all. In many cases against well established musical acts. Competitors totaling more than 100 bands, Parker's Lime manages to always catch the audience off guard. With a sound that is difficult to identify, they are able to make fun, acoustic, energetic, and danecable songs stack up against anything from Metal to Rap. They enjoy a fan base that most bands would work many years to gain, with a devotion not unlike the behavior of addicts. With a personality on stage unlike anyone else, a vocal style as magical and captivating than any other, and a writing style so honest and catchy, the last six months can only be a taste of things to come. But it can be fun, especially when the recipe calls for some funk juice on the hard rocks, with one shot each of ska, hip hop and disco thrash. The Phattoe cocktail comes shaken, and stirred, with no umbrella. Experience for yourself the refreshing qualities of an ice cold dose of Phattoe on a hot day. Formed in Calgary, Alberta in 2002, the Phattoe mission was to produce good time music that rocked, representing the band members’ diverse and ever evolving list of influences, while never sounding contrived or forced. The result? Free flowing music, catchy as hell, and delivered with unparalleled live energy! After dropping their debut album, "Phoot in tha Doe" on an unsuspecting public, Phattoe hit the road in the summer of 2003, making fans and establishing connections from Vancouver to Halifax. The album impressed many a critic, including the Calgary Sun’s Mike Bell, who called it a "fun, thoroughly original listen." Also impressed were the judges at CJAY 92, who gave the funked out ‘Hokey Pokey’ a top 5 finish in their annual songwriters competition. Just in time for the summer of 2004, Phattoe will release their sophomore album, ‘So Good’, recorded by producer Jonny Vincent. Funner, faster, louder and catchier than the first, the album is sure to inspire beer chugging sessions, limbo competitions and truck stereo wars from Nelson, BC to the Hawk Road, NS. Immediately following its release, Phattoe will again upload their bad asses into a van and set forth to preach the gospel to the Canadian masses. Keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground for a Phattoe performance near you as these 4 reasonably handsome young men strive to reach the pinnacle of Mt. The Wranglers music pays homage to cowboy life, horses, love and the eastern slopes of the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies, where they are guides on horseback during the summer. Originally, Marc Halun and Bill Wesson, on guitars and vocals, would entertain with trail songs and cowboy ballads, hence the first CD, Camp Fire". More recently, long time musician and friend, Bruce Goebel, has been added on vocals and stand-up bass to round out the Wranglers sound and enrich vocals and harmonies. The Ranger Creek Wranglers play regularly at folk clubs, festivals and concerts in Edmonton and central Alberta and have three CDs to their credit. Random Acts of Kindness![]() Ryan Neufeldt - guitar, piano, vocals Jenn Morrison - vocals Proudly, the band carries its name with both a sense of humour and complete seriousness; which, in many ways, accurately describes the band and their music as a whole. They strive for an intense, personal honesty; to invite their audience into their vision of questions and odd combinations. When the young, naive Ryan Neufeldt first moved to the city in 1997, his brother was forced to open a 'Random Acts of Kindness' account for him in order to limit his spending on the Toronto streets to peddlers. In that same city, though both from Kitchener-Waterloo, the co-founders officially met in 2002 after attending the same grade school. Since then, R.A.K has toured southern Ontario, and participated in the Mennofolk Festival in New Hamburg for the last two years. R.A.K. has also toured in New York City and spent most of this past summer touring across the western half of the country playing to very receptive and enthusiastic crowds. R.A.K. songs are a mixture of his political ideas and views and Jenn's emotionalism and search for beauty. Their voices blend, just as well as their presence and energy do on stage. Jon Martin - Lead
Guitar/Lead Vocals Every man has a mission: A mission to rock. Many bands are negligent of this mission, or fail so horribly it will make you cry. Red Rock Rebellion strives to fulfill this mission by using their god given right to rock and roll. In fact, using legendary rock and roll vision and legendary rock and roll power, they shatter the boundaries of even this lofty goal. With the prowess of a tiger (!), they effortlessly create a witch's brew of throbbing, penetrating pandemonium that will change the way you look at your children. Shad the Monster supplies the majority of the potatoes in the mythic stew that is Red Rock Rebellion. Intensifying the flavour is Jason the Righteous, the spice that provides the needed heat in this rock and roll concoction. Jon the Butcher brings fresh, raw meat to the brew, giving you something to chew on without ever being so tough that your jaw aches. All of this is combined in a thick, rich base provided by Tynan the Fierce. Red Rock Rebellion is more than a rock group; they are a rock group that will remind you why you love music enough to throw your panties onstage. In late 2003 the Ascetics released their first self produced EP titled ‘Leave it all to Rock’. ‘Changed’, the first single from the EP was entered in the coveted 11th Annual National Songwriting Competition where it placed the top 10 in the regional category among thousands of entries. “We feel we have something unique to contribute to contribute to today’s music scene” explains singer/guitarist Riley McKinnon, “We truly believe in what we are creating and I think it really comes out in our music.” adds drummer Dan Berdusco. Website: The Unreliables![]() Punk Rock from calgary, The Unreliables are a fun group, not because they bust out with super talent on stage, but because it's just five guys that could be anyone walking down the street. Anyone looking upon them from the crowd can concider themselves able to be there one day. However, the band often nails sets, and brings a fast paced and angry sound to the ears of listeners. It commands attention and it's hard not to listen. The band has improved from a 4 piece with simple but sonic songs to a 5 piece that, with many shows and a new CD under it's belt, is really starting to come into it's own. But the main thing about this band is that through it's existance, many bands that would regularly not have gotten shows did get shows, and lots of kids who would not go to any shows actually came out. A violent but short history of excess, the main staple this band thrives in is inconsistancy and chaos, playing any gig that came their way, from a 13 year olds birthday party to crazy house shows to playing for hundereds of people at packed venues, ever since the bands inception. Naturally hard times come, but it seems that while others fall, this band will out live and out last the rest. The bands chaotic agenda is set down by Lyricist Shithead Dave, most notably in songs like No Wing and Rampage, urging people to fight, either physically or mentally, against anything they deem wrong or unjust. The group maintains a strong Anti-Racist and Anti-Bush platform, believes in nuclear disarmament, and believes in direct action against those that would use fear as a method of control. Their first semi acceptable CD, You First, features 7 tracks; No Wing, Plastic, Lambs To The Slaughter, Rampage, Sid Vicious Was Off The Wall / Take It Back, Bombs Over Baghdad, and Rock Out Against Bush. The Band produced it's own music in it's entirety, usuing friends to record, and purchasing supplies from retail stores. This is in line with a strong DIY ethic. Currently the band resides on Boycott Records, which isn't really a record label, but more of a collective for the perpetuation of the local scene in calgary, and in it's recent startup, already has a compilation of local talent, a zine, one CD, meetings, and a show underway. MP3's can be heard at www.purevolume.com/unreliables The bands website is http://theunreliables.cjb.net Boycott Records meetings are held at 4:40pm Sundays at Mac hall, meetings start at 5:00, but the initial gathering place before hand is the food court. Being community run, this means that if you wish to contribute, you can. Members:
Today and After![]() Today and After began in June of 2002 by two friends, Dan Harden and Luke Franklin. Finding they had similar musicial interests they then spent all of their free time writing and rehearsing together. Three months later Luke decided he was going to travel and broaden his international horizons - thus, the band was put on hiatus. Now, Scotland may be beautiful but it only had one half of the band. So, two months later Dan received a call from Luke with the offer of travelling and taking their music to the world. From Dan's perspective it wasn't a hard decision to make - two weeks later he was in Scotland. Things were looking really good for the band as they were gigging their new set and building a steady fan base (not to mention being mobbed by hot women). Around this time "Today and After" received an offer to have an album produced by Likely Story, a production company in New Zealand. After 3 months of recording in New Zealand, Today and After headed back home to Canada to build the live band. Today it consists of Dan Harden on vocals, Luke Franklin on guitar and backing vocals, Shawn Hagen on guitar, Dean Evanger on bass, and Ted Reynolds on drums. September 2003 sees the release of their first single "As You Were" of their as yet untitled debut album.
